People don’t resign because one person “spoilt the company” for them during onboarding. They’re adults, not children.
A colleague can share their experience or even complain, but every reasonable person will judge a workplace based on their own experience. If they eventually leave, it’s because what they experienced matched the warning not because someone influenced them.
Let’s stop shifting responsibility.
If you hire someone for HR but they end up doing procurement, administration, secretary duties, operations, and everything else under the sun without being told upfront, don’t blame the onboarding staff when they resign. If the workload is unrealistic, the culture is poor, or the job isn’t what was advertised, that’s what drives people away.
An onboarding buddy can influence a first impression, but they don’t determine whether someone stays. Companies retain employees through honesty, realistic expectations, good leadership, fair compensation, and a healthy work environment not by expecting one employee to “SELL”the organization.
