I had kinda the reverse of that situation some years back when I worked customer service for a nonprofit property insurance company. I was working the front desk one day and we had signs on both sides of the window asking walk-in customers to please end their phone conversations before approaching the window. This female came in speaking loudly and walked right up to the window. I just stared past her out the front door and pointed at the no phonecalls at the window sign. She got all indignant and said "(huffing) Lemme call you right back." As soon as she ended her call I smiled up at her and said "Welcome to *company name*, how may I help you today?" which pissed her off all the more. It was one of the few joys I got out of that day.

If I'm on the phone and I need to talk to a cashier or something, I tell my spouse (it's always my spouse) that I'm checking out and ignoring him. 🤣

We once had a customer ask for a manager claiming she had been ignored by an employee. The employee was a cook clocking in and walking to the kitchen. They don’t do front of house at all. It’s not their job.

I work at a grocery store, sooooo many people having full blown convos on their phones, yet will snap at me to ask for help. No, put the phone down first. Rude & entitled on their end. 😶
