![Dear [Senator/Representative/Government Official], I am writing as a concerned citizen to respectfully ask for your assistance in seeking justice for Malik Jamal Mallett, a 21-year-old Black man who was fatally stabbed outside a residence in Ridgecrest, California, on July 30, 2017. According to eyewitnesses, Malik was not involved in the fight that preceded the stabbing. Witnesses stated that he was attempting to stop the altercation when he was stabbed in the chest. He later died from his injuries at Ridgecrest Regional Hospital. The individual identified as Richard White was questioned by law enforcement but was never arrested or charged after claiming self-defense. As a result, the circumstances surrounding Malik’s death were never examined in a court of law. Many members of the community and Malik’s family have expressed serious concerns about the thoroughness of the investigation and whether all available evidence was fully considered.
