i had this idea based on your “a dragon was lightbringer” that the wyrms and wyverns mentioned in a world of ice and fire could be the two failed forgings: one has fire, one has wings, but neither are worth forcing a blood bond onto because dragons are the superior version of both in terms of power

I’m also reminded of the phrase that keeps being brought up in Jon chapters in ASOS and ADWD, “sorcery is a sword without a hilt.” In context they’re talking about the dangers of unbridled magic, but I also think the analogy is being repeated for the audience to recognize that magical beings, dragons, are metaphorical swords.

I agree with you 100%, but unrelated: this art is of the Master Sword from The Legend of Zelda, which as a series, draws on the image of Excalibur and the Sword in the Stone...but in the most recent Zelda game, you literally pull this specific Sword not from a Stone, but from a DRAGON. Just a funny coincidence 🤭

I don’t know if this is relevant at all but this reminds me of that line in the books about how sorcery is a sword without a hilt. Obviously the dragons are related to sorcery and they’re also basically weapons without a “hilt” or a real way to control them bc dragons can never be truly controlled. Idk if there’s really a parallel in there but I just thought that was interesting!
