@tuvecinadeallado: Here’s a controversial thought: Maybe the problem with long-term relationships is not that intimacy disappears. Maybe the problem is that we refuse to accept that sometimes it has completed its purpose. Two people meet through attraction. They become lovers. Then they build a home, raise children, survive illness, mortgages, grief and twenty years of becoming different people. And somehow, we expect the erotic relationship to remain exactly where we left it. When it doesn’t, we immediately diagnose someone. Low libido. Hormones. Trauma. Intimacy shutdown. Fear of vulnerability. Anything except the most obvious possibility: Perhaps these two people are no longer lovers. They may still love each other deeply. They may still be family. They may still want to protect everything they created. But love does not guarantee desire. And perhaps forcing intimacy to return is not always healing. Sometimes healing is having the courage to ask: Has the relationship failed—or has it simply become something else?
