honestly, everyone keeps saying that he's more "goofy" in httyd 2 & 3, but he has always been kinda "goofy". Just because he is more serious in a few frames of the first movie doesn't mean he's always like that, besides, he looks more silly and joyful because he trusts humans/Hiccup way more now, so he's comfortable with sharing this side of him.
