Their accounting was incredibly rude to you, and you still helped them and even got them more people! You are a saint, clearly.

It’s crazy that it takes an outside source for upper management to finally “see” a problem that surely employees have brought up before.

Worked in accounting for almost 20 years. Although she had absolutely no reason to be rude to you, we do sometimes get the short end of the stick and feel forgotten. Thanks for bringing this scenario out. It’s much appreciated.

When I watched your last video, I immediately thought about my husband who works in accounting. He frequently ran into this, The absolute overload of work and projects. Especially with month-end clothes and audit seasons… It’s always the accounting team that gets overloaded. So I love that you addressed this head on with the CEO and that they responded with this kind of support.

Can you please come speak to my CEO? I manage a team of two, me and one other associate and oversee payroll, benefits, and the HRIS system for 2300 employees across 15 separate entities. I am constantly told we don’t need help. it’s exhausting!

As an accountant, we always seem to be the leanest department. The reason seems to be that we’re not a profit center and therefore we don’t get the resources needed as the business grows. Thanks for seeing that. Although the way the accounting team communicated with you was rude.

Why isn’t anyone asking why people are being asked to come in on their vacations? If I’m on vacation that is my time and I’m not coming into work.

I appreciate you seeing past the pushback and snappiness to see what was at the root of that. The CEO seems like a good egg in this instance. I hope that accounts person feels relief with the extra staff allocation!

I see that a lot of people are demonizing the accounting manager but I would be so thankful for a manager that actually set realistic boundaries with other departments for what my department could do with the staff we have been given. I don’t think it’s far fetched to assume she would have also gone to upper management to ask for additional FTEs to cover all their responsibilities. The fact that they got that much more staffing tells me it was actually needed. She was direct but she wasn’t mean. So she looks like the bad person when it was really upper mismanagement of resources.

I’m pretty impressed with this CEO, which is rare lol. They seemed ready to fix problems as soon as they were told there were problems.

do we think Bri was the first person accounting complained about their workload too? I think the problem wasn't that the accounting team was too small, but that the leadership didn't listen when accounting repeatedly said they were drowning while things were failing around them.

Every accounting job I have had always had less staff than needed and caused so much stress. my last manager gave multiple projects everyday with the expectation that each one is priority and needed to be done. By the time I quit, I left a note of over 30 projects I had been working on and where we were on it.

thank you. im in the accounting department and we are the red headed step children. in our department our favorite saying is "what ops wants is what ops get" at the expense of us. we tripled our work load and added 1 person. its amazing how they dont see it

As an accountant, I'm glad you didn't just throw Accounting under the bus. We often get things dumped on us, everyone assumes we have no personal life and are happy to work 80 hour weeks. Non-accountants thinks it takes just a few minutes to accomplish a task when in reality everything must tie out and be done correctly. A former supervisor said she wanted financial statements on the 1st of the month and I explained there are month end closing processes with many entries and reconciliations to do. She asked if I could give it to her on the second then. That was a decade ago and I'm still mad about it. No, you will not get the financial statements on the first or second.

I know she was kinda mean and unprofessional, but as soon as I heard Payroll's response, my thought was "Accounting needs more people."
And honestly, I'm sick of judging people for being unprofessional when they are being overworked and abused.
You can only be slighted so many times before you give it back.
And it sounds like the CEO knew or expected a promise.
I think he seems great but he needs to get a few people who's opinions he can trust to watch things throughout the chain and report back to him.

Adding 16 vacation hours across the board to all employees is NOT hard. Sorry, but that’s just silly to make IT do it. Unless they don’t know how to most efficiently use their software to do a mass change. That’s WILD.
