the show's writing sucks. in the book Rhaenyra ADORED Laena, she and Daemon wept when she passed during childbirth, and afterwards Rhaenyra took Baela and Rhaena in and raised them AS HER OWN. Book Rhaenyra would never mistreated Baela as such, and book Rhaena would never leave her brothers alone in pursuit of a fking wild dragon

They even killed Jace the wrong way just to blame the girls for it, in the book he isn’t stupid and goes for a battle to save his little brother and his mother knows and recognizes his battle ability. They put Baela to be a complicit at Jace’s bad idea and Rhaena to be the cause of his death
