I wore knitted stockings for a costume. Not having any elasticity felt weird. I found myself adjusting them, to eliminate sagging wrinkles, about every 2 hours or so.

i had an embroidered pair of light green sheer ones, they were lovely. ivy detail with morning glories added. i never knew how old they were but they were worn unto bits

I worked at a bank that still had hose as required part of the required dress code for women in the late 20teens. It wasn’t enforced for about 10 years before that, but a lot of those sexist dress codes persisted way longer than people think.

Stockings were *still* required at work and religious events through the 1980s. They tapered in the early 1990s when trousers, trouser suits, and short trouser socks that looked like calf length stockings became the norm. I’m a former fashion journalist who grew up in that period.

I still wear stockings to work, pantyhose are great and all but they're so constricting around the stomach and the crotch always slides down, and the stockings I have come up all the way to prevent chub rub ❤️
