But here’s the thing: Bali worships white people. So, this is par for the course. I don’t feel the slightest thing because we’ve been telling Asians for DECADES what they’re like, but all we receive as thanks is racist vitriol and endless anti-Blackness. This is incredibly common in the global south. Many years ago I went to a party at an apartment where expats lived as my friend (local) was dating a foreigner. When we showed up, the guy was furious that she had invited locals as this “cheapened” the status of the party for him.

I don't think the participants are intentionally racist...but they are for sure ignorant and I don't know which is worse (if you get what I mean). I'm half Indon, and I go regularly to Indonesia to see relatives but the whole gentrification and "bulefication" of Bali throws me off and curbs any desire to go travel specifically in Bali (I've never been). Funny I once saw a video about some Brit loving Bali but didn't even know it was part of Indonesia...
