I also don't think its a coincidence that if this merger happens, CBS and CNN will be under the same company. its entertainment AND news especially before the presidential election

I know people are only looking at the merger based on the lawsuits and the companies directly involved, but what I'm seeing missed is that this is a web where Larry Ellison is deeply in bed with OpenAI so if OpenAi tumbles Oracle
goes down with it and there goes Larry's money. My favorite tech reporter Ed Zitron has been covering Oracle and Larry's financial obligations because of his work on the AI bubble if you're interested in more info on the financial situation around this deal and why it's in big trouble beyond the legal battle.

I feel like there's been a lot to celebrate about cinema so far this year, but this merger is sitting on the horizon like a looming storm. I hope the lawsuits are successful in beating it.

Have you heard about Paramount’s financial situation and the relationship to Oracle + OpenAI? I haven’t done too much research but it’s seeming like the merger may not even happen because Paramount won’t have the money for it, especially since it’s been delayed. It seems like a significant part of the money for the merger is based on Oracle shares (gifted by David Ellison’s dad who’s Oracle’s CEO) and those share prices are crashing because Oracle made a massive deal with OpenAI and is not gonna get their money back.

it’s actually still so wild to me that a company that produces movies can own national news networks. like i know this is just how the media works, but WHY 😭 it feels like those should be 2 very separate entities. there’s way too much room for bias in media when everything is merging and blurring together. also as a canadian it’s crazy to me that you guys don’t just have a federal government-owned public broadcaster (like cbc or bbc) and your private owned conglomerates lowkey function as that without transparency lol

speaking as a crew person, the limbo we're in while the individual production companies that move through the studios wait to see who will sign the cheques/have creative control/determine what city or country any given upcoming project will go to production in has been completely ruinous for people's lives. most people working on productions are freelance, which is always a game of attrition, but the merger is the cherry on top of one of the worst stretches the industry has ever seen.
also, it should be noted that this has far reaching effects outside of the US. American production companies do a ton of business around the world, all the global film cities are suffering to some extent now because things have slowed so badly.

Thanks for talking about this. I’m an editor and the mergers have killed my career. It’s been a nightmare for me and my colleagues on every level of production a lot of my friends are unemployed… families are loosing their homes

Paramount plus prices are going up to over 100 a year when it was like 50. They keep laying people off. But does the ceo keep getting huge bonuses every year.
