As a cake decorator… buttercream is only ever good if it’s Swiss merengue buttercream cause it’s lighter and uses less sugar. American buttercream is inedible. Cream cheese is a dream taste wise but can be annoying to decorate with.

Some of yall are saying buttercream is better because it’s actual butter and not seed oil like whipped icing….. except most mass produced buttercream or even bakers themselves use shortening instead of butter because it makes a whiter base color, holds up better with heat and is better for piping sharper designs
