I was always taught in my babysitting first aid classes to immediately place the child into the tub with cool, not cold, water running over the scalded area, and then gently remove any clothes that weren’t stuck, and THEN call 911. Now I am a mom of six so I hope that advice is still good, I’ve never had to do it 🥺

made some ramen on the stovetop at the ripe age of like 7, spilled it all over my stomach while it was boiling, got yelled at and sent to bed without dinner, so I'm fairly confident that's not what I'm supposed to do to a kid

Lukewarm water, depending on how severe the burn is either a visit to ER or calling 911, that is the only solution. Never cold water, that just puts the already overloaded body into a shock. Do NOT try to take clothing off if it's 3rd degree burns, you could rip the skin off while doing so.

Do NOT. I repeat. DO NOT. Pull off their clothing— even if they're wet. My sister spilled boiling hot chocolate on herself as a toddler and my mom panicked and pulled off her winter coat that was drenched. IT PULLED OFF HER SKIN. The fire department wrapped her burns in a blanket and rushed us to the hospital. Severe burns are always an emergency, even if it's only on a small area. She ended up being okay

A child at my daycare passed away because he accidentally poured boiling water on his face. His dad was making coffee and he had boiling water in the pot. Dad looked away and the child poured all the water on his face which went inside his eyes too. He was taken to ER, was there for a week and then passed away.

This actually happened to my son at 1.5. A pot of boiling pasta spilled onto his hand. He fought and screamed at me the entire step of the way but I immediately ran the tap, when he was ripping it away from the tap I put him in a whole bath instead. Eventually he wanted me to hold him so I put his hand in a cup and we watched a show to calm him down till we had help

And never ever put anything petroleum based (Vaseline, aquaphor etc) on a burn as it can trap heat and allow the burn to fester - firefighter’s daughter

Lukewarm water NOT COLD and dont pop the blisters, after you run some water on it a trip to the er for some antibiotics n a checkup on the tissue and youll be golden 💗

i had a snapple bottle dropped on my toe during my sixth birthday party & the magician turned out to be a doctor. he took care of it all so 911 never needed to be called but it was just super ironic that the magician came to the rescue in a medical sense

I was in the newborn trenches with a colicky baby and exclusively pumping, we both dozed off in the recliner while I was holding my coffee (not safe I know but I was exhausted and have every intention on staying awake), and my coffee spilled all over him. I woke up when it spilled and immediately called 911 thinking I just scorched my baby. My coffee wasn’t coffee, it was chocolate milk. The paramedics were so nice about it while I was bawling my eyes out apologizing profusely. I tried to call and tell them not to come but they did anyway

Whatever you do, don’t listen to her. Waiting 20 minutes after a child is burned to call 911 is absolutely the wrong call….

…it’s commonly taught not to put skin under cold water after a burn bcs of the shock…we are taught this in cooking and medical training to use luke warm water

Absolutely not. He’s 16 months old and I’m just praying nothing happens because i genuinely don’t know how to respond in emergencies and there mere thought of this terrifies me 👍 I am in therapy for this

Just above lukewarm is how you want the temperature. Do not wait the 20 minutes they are in the shower to call for help, the moment they are in the shower you call for help, waiting 20 minutes is ridiculous advice.
