Hydrangea are hit or miss. One thing I learned is when you cut the stems, scoop out the white stuff.It will give them better hydration.

You should always repot your plants as soon as you buy them into a bigger pot not too big just bigger and eventually the dirt needs to be given food as well sesole or you can get indoor plant food from your local plant shop
