Exact same thing happened with EVs where the car world had to deal with these new “tech” people acting like they were reinventing the automobile from scratch when they had no clue how manufacturing or suspension dynamics or almost anything else engineering related actually works. They keep doing this over and over. IMO it’s investment hype stealing narratives and forcing the relitigation of every industry and practice they touch so they can profit. And they get away with it bc there aren’t a lot of voices with cross domain expertise to recognize it when it comes to another industry.

Thanks for sharing Vidya. I see this less as agentic engineering being replaced and more as AI finally reconnecting with established computer science. Sequential, conditional and parallel execution have always existed. What has changed is that models can now reason, use tools and make decisions inside those patterns. The real skill is not knowing the newest term. It is knowing how to design the right system for the problem. Btw these are both a subset of workflow engineering:)

It always comes back to first principles. But the field is so new that anyone with a little clout can invent a term, call it “engineering,” and people will eat it up. In reality, the only thing that consistently works is clear spec-driven development.
