@veganinchina_: I could eat this everyday! 😋 麻辣烫 Málà tàng (literally mouth numbing spicy soup) is one of my favourite Chinese dishes. Originally from Sichuan, it has made its way to Northeastern China where it has been reinvented with the addition of creamy sesame-peanut paste to soften the spice and add an irresistible creaminess. Most of the time your ingredients are boiled in a bone broth, but I happened to come across this pure vegan restaurant in Harbin. Lucky me, it had only opened a week before I arrived, so if you're in Harbin go show the new vegan business some love! 素食麻辣烫 Sùshí málà tàng 📍哈尔滨 - 分部街66-4号 (Fenbu street on Amap, look for n. 66) If you're craving a Malatang but can't find a vegan place, try to find one that can boil your ingredients in a fresh pot of water. Some places boil ingredients in a communal pot, but others can do individual, it really just depends on the size of the shop. There'll be no lack of flavour once they add the chilli oil, soy sauce, vinegar and sesame! If you want more yummy recs like this, I have just released a Harbin food guide! Link is in my bio, happy eating! #veganinchina #chinatravel #harbin #malatang #vegantravel

I found that there are quite a few malatang places that boil in water (becoming brothy from other ingredients), the one we go to doesn’t advertise it but it happy to cook vegan meals in water that is new or only had veggies in them.

Hi, we are travelling to beijing, taiwan and shanghai in a few months. Do you have any phrases that I can easily learn to ask for vegan food? On other trips, I printed out cards saying „I do not eat meat, fish, egg, milk. No chicken powder, no lard, …“ in the respective language. Do you think this could be helpful for our vacation to chinese-speaking countries? :)

It’s true that many Asian regions, especially China, offer an enormous variety of vegetables, mushrooms, and edible fungi. For anyone who follows a plant‑based lifestyle, it can feel like a kind of paradise for veganism. Example,
( 木耳 )”Wood ear” is a type of edible wood fungus.
