Sixteen years ago today, you made me a mom. 🤍 My firstborn. My first baby. The little girl who changed my entire world before I even knew how much my world needed changing. You’ve had a front-row seat to every version of me. The young mom who was still trying to figure herself out. The struggling version. The military mom. The broken version. The healing version. The strong version. And yes, even the ugly versions. When I left for the military, I was trying to build a better life for me and my children. But I also know that my leaving impacted you in ways I couldn’t fully understand at the time. You were just a little girl, and some of the choices I made while trying to become better meant that you had to be strong before you ever should have needed to be. That is something I will carry with me. Because in so many ways, we grew up together. Through every change, every separation, every hard season and every new beginning, I have watched you become this incredibly strong, resilient and brave young woman. And somehow, after everything life has put in front of you, you still have your sass, your spunk, your attitude, your heart—and I wouldn’t change a damn thing about you. There are things I wish I could go back and do differently. There are moments I wish I could relive, moments I wish I hadn’t missed, and things I understand now that I simply didn’t understand then. But being your mom? I would choose that over and over and over again. I hope when you look through these pictures someday, you don’t just see yourself growing up. I hope you see a little girl who was loved fiercely through every single chapter—even during the chapters when life was messy and I didn’t always know how to show it perfectly. And now somehow that tiny baby is 16 years old. I don’t know exactly where life will take you from here, but I know one thing with everything in me: you are going to succeed. You are strong. You are resilient. You are brave. And you are so incredibly loved. Happy Sweet 16, Jaelynn. 🤍 You made me a mom. But what you may not realize yet is just how much you helped make me who I am, too. I love you more than you will ever fully understand. #Sweet16 #FirstBorn #MyGirl #ProudMom #GrowingUp
