Read the whole manga up to current publication today, and while I was uncomfortable and disturbed, along with being off-put by the idea of directly using a real person with a potential developmental disability for a character model, as an autistic person I appreciate seeing a raw portrayal of what can and does happen to disabled people daily. Especially when left to their own devices without a stable support system. (Spoilers but idfc) The ways people around Mikako initially want to help but leave once she becomes “too much,” give her advice on dv services but won’t help her find the best fit because it’s too much work on their end even after they know she’s not capable of basic literacy because her mannerisms simply bother them too much, and the ways she’s taken advantage of bc that’s how she was traumatized into accepting love, those are all real things mentally disabled people undergo in life at the hands of neurotypical people. If it makes you uncomfortable, it should.
