Wow this comment section had made me feel less alone. My 5.5 year old has always been the sweetest kindest boy ever and now we’re struggling with behaviors. Talking back, telling me no, anxiety, just constant non stop.

As a kindergarten teacher and the demands our education system has on these babies I wish they could start kindergarten at 6. Kindergarten really is the new 1st grade and I always notice 5 and 5.5 year olds struggle so much because the learning expected of them just is not developmentally appropriate for them :((

Is increased picky eating part of this, typically? My son ate everything as a baby, had a normal uptick in pickiness as a toddler, but is now turning down things that were long-held staples (even mac n cheese, and god forbid a nugget looks at him wrong 🙄) He barely eats lunch, even if it’s something he’ll eat at home. I’m at a loss!!

My 5.5yo boy has gotten sooo restless and talking back and challenging everything. attitude all the time and bitting nails like anxiety. a lot of push back and big emotions. I'm scared for him to start kindergarten next week 😰🥹

At 5.5 years old my child started recognizing nervousness, she became to anxious around new activities or trying things they hadn’t done in a while. Their 3 months away from 6 and it’s slowly gotten better

My 5.5 year old is chewing everything. It’s feels bigger than just biting nails.. chews shirts, straws, - doesn’t seem to realize it’s in his mouth- picks at scabs obsessively, and mindlessly pulls and picks things- pulled a pillow apart from 1 small strand. Is this normal or something I should look into?

My 5 yr old will be 6 in a couple months and he clearly has anxiety in social settings but it comes out as doing weird ass things like be gross or rude to be funny and get attention and see what he can get away with. He starts kindergarten in August and my anxiety is through the roof ugh
