They were lied to by the people who said they could stay and work after graduation. They need to take it up with those people not our government. A temporary student visa is temporary. Finish school, take your degree and go back home to find a job in your field. If you want to come back, apply for a work visa.

When I was in University foreign students on VISAs were usually sent by their countries and paid for as well with the sworn assurance they would return to their country and pay them back by staying and working there for 5 years.
