I think what non-clinical people often don’t understand is what psychosis truly is. That you can plan, calculate and execute an act without realizing it’s wrong or inappropriate.

I’m just hoping WE as a society actually learn something from this case, because we clearly didn’t learn enough from Amanda Yates. We need to do better at recognizing the warning signs, taking mental health crises seriously, and making sure people get the help and protection they need before it’s too late.

I was so mad at prosecutor for the question about what the kids enjoyed. I understand the prosecution is trying to use emotions, but it is NOT RELEVANT to whether Lindsay is guilty or not. And, it was torturous for Patrick to answer those questions… I’m trying hard to leave my emotions to the side - I get that there is no place for them in the courtroom - just seemed completely unnecessary.

my feeling about the husband is that he’s not a bad person but he severely underestimated and misunderstood her struggles, and kept leaving the childcare up to her because that’s how they had always done things. He thought she was a little off but could still do all the things she normally did for the children, he took her home labor for granted and didn’t step into that role himself because it didn’t even occur to him to do so.

Well someone who was sleep deprived and struggling to eat, obviously wouldn’t be taking medications consistently. Her husband should’ve taken over and make her take them like they do in the hospital. This all comes down to her husband and her doctors

if she is bipolar (which i believe she is) SSRI’s in general make psychosis symptoms and hallucinations EXTREMELY WORSE. UNDIAGNOSED bipolar disorder and 13 SSRI’s….she was not herself dude. it’s not hard to see. she was scared of herself and for herself.

Sometimes I wish juries in cases involving severe mental illness included people with medical or psychiatric backgrounds. The complexities of psychosis, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, and postpartum mental illness are incredibly difficult to fully understand without specialized knowledge.

The problem is this: understanding it’s wrong doesn’t negate the psychological compulsion or “need” to commit the bad act caused by mental illness. Imagine your own brain betraying you in the most heinous, heartbreaking, personal way possible

When you’re in that deep you often need your partner to hold you accountable and make sure you’re eating, taking meds, etc. 100% she needed him to help her.

I mean honestly, it comes down to her having multiple recent diagnoses and medication changes. She was not 100% in her right state of mind due to her diagnosis/meds so sanity is out the window. (btw, what is she diagnosed with today and what is she taking??)
