Going no contact with your abusive family- no one tells you how fucking lonely it is. You biologically want to be with the very people who cause you harm

And after you apply this successfully you realize the frightening truth; you don't know any safe ppl

And never let someone make you feel “bad” for what triggers you bc YOU can’t decide what’s going to trigger you …that’s why it’s called a trigger

People are horrified when I say this, but the most life-affirming belief I have is this: "most people are terrible. When you find good people, keep them in your life."

YES!!!! This plus EMDR and I'm like an entirely new person. However, because healing forced me to set and hold boundaries, I'm certainly meaner than I used to be, because I used to be a doormat.

This is why as someone with cptsd I think I thrive at work in acute psych. Danger and safety all have protocols and become so black and white in that setting it feels “safe”.

My parent is my abuser and I still see him - to avoid drama. My therapist says this is retraumatizing. I agree but it’s so hard to distance. 🥺

Thank you for this. I hear a lot of,” if you heal properly, you can be around toxic unsafe people no problem.” And I’m always like, yes, but why would you?!

true, I went no contact with my mother. shortly after that I quit drinking. smoking mj and cigarettes, vaping. I started drinking water, weight lifting and hitting macros. I am in therapy and I have made massive leaps in healing. do I miss her? no... i miss what I didnt have.

This is so true! I have people in my life now who respect my boundaries without pushback and my body is no longer clenching expecting a fight.

As someone with cptsd who is very healed, this was the game changer for me. It took decades, but it changed EVERYTHING when I finally got there. My circle is tiny. I'm trying to expand it, but I have to be selective. It sucked bad to lose the people I lost, and I miss them in some ways, but the peace that came when I let go is priceless. What helped me finally be able to tell the difference in who is harmful and who is safe was only by the grace of God - I met my boyfriend. He's safe. He has always been safe. I could not have chosen a safe person on my own. But now that I know what safe feels like, I know what danger is.
