@coltenbarnaby: The real question is what judgment is for.... Does God’s fire torture forever, or does it purify? Does death keep part of creation forever, or is death finally destroyed? Does evil get an eternal monument, or does Christ reconcile all things? Does God become all in all, or only all in some? Universal salvation says God wins completely. Not by granting evil an eternal fiefdom over which to rule a part of creation, but by burning it away until nothing is left but life. #christian #christiantiktok #salvation #bible

You forgot that at the end of Revelation, there is a book of judgment and a book of life. Those whose names are not in the latter are cast into the lake of fire.

This is super interesting & well worded I am so intrigued. I want to know more- How do you explain verses like “I am the Way the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father except through Me?”

I suspect that people who embrace the idea of eternal conscious torment do so because it gives cover to their own cruelty- “I’m trying to help you, if you don’t respond to my hatred, just wait for what God has in store for you”.

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” Through sin (disobedience and separation from God), we earn death. The only way to escape it and experience restored relationship with God is to accept Jesus and follow*** Him. Why would he force someone to worship Him for eternity when they never wanted to on Earth? God “wins” fully through the righteous judgement of sinners who never accepted the salvation he offered AND through salvation being accepted. It’s sad and terrifying, but this is why we share the good news! Jesus lived the perfect life that we aren’t capable of living, died the death we deserve, and rose again three days later. Romas 6:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” When we accept that we are sinners and Jesus is the only way to God the Father and eternal life, we are saved. Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith and this is not your own doing. It is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Romans 10:9 “…if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” - it doesn’t say everyone will be saved. Would love to see more scripture that you think supports this idea!

I’m really interested in reading one or a few books that capture a lot of what it is that you believe, can you provide a list?

I've always interpreted "eternal fire/" to mean that the instrument of correction is beyond human control and understanding, not that we will eternally participate in it. Also, time outside of this world operates completely differently to theological "eternity". I'm an hour outside the nearest city, but that's if I drive. If I walk it's probably a couple days. Distance from/Proximity to God as symbolically measured by time gives us a (more) comprehendable framework so we can do the work we need to do.

I’d argue universalism was suggested long before Jesus came around. “Every knee will bow” in Isaiah. “His mercy is over all that he has made” in the Psalms. Lots more throughout the prophets.

Purgative judgement is cruel when it's done by an all powerful Creator God to the beings he created.

Universal salvation is not a mandatory dogma of the Christian Faith but it is a legitimate Christian opinion , and compatible with Evangelical core beliefs .

How does this teaching square with Romans 6:23 and Heb. 4:1-6? Apparently there will be those who reject salvation and will die eternally. The OT Canaaan is a model for the day of judgment, entering into the promised land or "rest" runs parallel to the future day of judgment. 🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️

the church's position, as far as I know, from the very beginning, was a very carefully worded, "we hope for universal salvation." like, the catholic and orthodox churches both agree that it's very unlikely that anyone would ever choose endless torture, but they won't say it's impossible. so it's not a new idea, it's just one that the church has never been willing to formally declare, because it's a big claim, and a serious error if they're wrong... and I suppose, if you preach universal salvation, you run into the problems mentioned above. how do you keep people from becoming complacent? how do you keep them from slipping into the mindset that "it doesn't matter what I do then"?

I call it “Universal Reconciliation” God restores all of creation to its true fullness, Rev 20 leaves room for God to do this, also if we recognize that Jesus is the one who judges , we must acknowledge His track record against death (undefeated)
