The judge in Tyler Robinson’s preliminary hearing today saw photographs of the towel-wrapped rifle prosecutors say Robinson hide in a bush after he used it to murder Charlie Kirk. The photos were displayed during the testimony of Sgt. Jennifer Faumuina, a sergeant with the Utah Department of Public Safety who was assigned to oversee the crime scenes and physical evidence after Kirk was shot on Sept. 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University.
"I was told that they found a gun, and from there I asked them to hold the scene,” she said, and she went to the scene with an FBI agent. “All you could really see was just a dark towel there, so pictures were taken of that, and then eventually the gun, or the towel, was removed,” Faumuina said. “Once we removed the towel from the bushes is when we uncovered that the towel …was actually used to wrap the gun in,” she continued. Prosecutor Ryan McBride, chief of the General Crimes Division for the Utah County Attorney’s Office, asked Faumuina why they photographed the towel around the gun. “We wanted to document as to how it was found,” Faumuina said. Faumuina said they found a .30-06 cartridge case in the chamber and three unfired cartridges “all with engravings on them.” This clip has been edited for brevity. You can find another clip about what the engravings said on my page, and you can watch all of the testimony unedited on my YouTube channel or Facebook page. The proceeding before Judge Tony F. Graf Jr. in Utah's 4th Judicial District in Provo is not a trial. It is a hearing for Graf to determine if probable cause supports the charges against Robinson. #law #crime #court
