i have a 70mm imax theater near me and just out of curiosity looked to see the availability for the next two weeks for the odyssey. every single seat was sold EXCEPT for the wheelchair and companion seats. several pairs of tickets available at each showing. would you prefer if the seats just stayed empty? it’s distasteful but he’s not taking anything away from anyone.

To the people saying “oh but I looked and all the seats except the wheelchair seats were booked so is it really taking them away from anyone”….the answer is yes, yes you are. I am someone who can ambulate and I’m picky about my seats so I will grab my crutches and find my way up the stairs and into a seat that’s as in the middle of the screen as possible. When I went to see the odyssey I went to a cinema I’d never been too before, they had different kinds of seats than I’m used too, seats that i couldn’t sit in for an extended period of time. Someone got a member of staff for me and they found out for me if they had wheelchair seats free, luckily for me the one at the top of the screen was free. Instead of sitting in a chair that would cause me physical pain for three hours I was able to sit in my custom wheelchair that I’m used to sitting in for hours. (I was upset about no longer being in the middle but this is probably the best wheelchair spot I’ve ever seen because usually they’re at the bottom and wayyyy to close to the screen it makes my eyes hurt)

I went to hadestown last night and it only had 5 spots for wheelchairs. 5. thats it. so if 2 people went not needing it thatd be 3 left. 3 out of like 50-100 seats.

not to mention disability seating is usually in the VERY back so them being where they are and finally being able to see the movie clearly is also a huge win and a huge opportunity that is being taken away from us when able bodied individuals pull shit like this

Whats "funny" to them makes a disabled persons day harder at least and possibly unsafe too. If an emergency happens needing fast evacuation you are endangering those disabled people. Get a better hobby than impersonating a minority for attention, like are they 15?

In my opinion, the wheelchair seats should obviously not be taken by ablebodied people, UNLESS every other seat is taken, because by that point the theater is essentially sold out for everyone except for wheelchair users, meaning the disabled people had just as much time as others to take their seats, and now have the same opportunity to take the accessible seating as others. It's just a matter of not having those seats reserved for only wheelchair users anymore. BUT I think that should be a theater policy, and the right way to go around it would be to call and ask if you can purchase an accessible seat because now the inaccessible seating is in the minority (to the point of being completely gone). And if they say no, they say no. On the other end, making a video, acting like idiots and being in a wheelchair is such a horrible thing, and especially making a video about it and posting it MULTIPLE times is definitely not the move here.
