I worked ophthalmology. Floaters are common. A good dilated eye exam is where you start. ER can’t do anything but refer you to an ophthalmologist

Do NOT ever go to the ER for eye problems unless you fractured your orbit.

A tear is much better than a detached retina. I'm 4 weeks out from surgery for the later.

Retina here. The ER is going to do nothing. You need to call your local ophthalmologist .

Make sure if they change you get them checked out asap. I had floaters, which changed to like someone drawing the curtain over my eye. Turned out to be eye cancer xx

ophthalmic assistant here- the ER is pretty much useless for eyes, call your local hospitals ophthalmology office- they should know who is on call at all times and can direct you properly to get you seen. if you ever see new flashes of light or floaters always call asap! hope they figure it out and get you treated properly 🫶🏼

Your PCP or whoever you called is an extreme alarmist

You poor thing. Call optometry first next time. Even if you have an HMO- usually they will reach out to your PCP to get your referral. Hopefully all is well!

call your optometrist first, we will get you in quickly and there are screening tests we can do to adjust our concern level about those big issues like tumors (optic nerve scans, visual fields, pupil testing). not to say you wouldn't have still needed imaging but could have saved so much time and money (potentially)

So our department (ophthalmology) has a Doc on call 24/7. I always tell people, before you run to the ER for anything to do with the eyes, call the Doctor on call first. You can bypass the long ER waits all together. If the Dr. wants you to be seen they will meet you at the hospital. It’s worth checking if your hospital has an Ophthalmologist on call.

I was diagnosed with MEWDS 5 months ago. I work in optometry so I was able to track the progress. I woke up with a blind spot. This is what I was seeing as it progressed.

ER never the first way to go, they will send you to them anyway! Always go to your optometrist first and then they will send you if needed! Prayers for you!
