it depends on the relationship U have between your mom and dad some people don't have any problem with that. for example in India I stay in Baroda but for security reasons I call my parent by her first name.

He is saying that is not necessarily bad to call your parents name.. But doing it all the time, you begin to change the relationship dynamics of yourself with your parents that they become more like your friends or peer. Not long you'll find yourself treating your mom or dad as such.
