My mom redid all of our floors using the drum sander, it wasn’t as bad as what people say. It will jerk you around a lot though so you have to manhandle it. Definitely watch some videos first, but it’s doable!

I think the floors are restrained wood. Meaning they come from a factory with a stain and finish on them for commercial applications. The finish is meant to be “durable”. But, the wood is super thin, so be careful if you do decide to go with the drum sander!

For drum sanders if you stop moving the sander will sand into the floor giving you a divot. So the secret is to never stop moving. The other secret is to go slow. Stopping no. Slow, yes. Then you need this ridiculous circular sander for edges but we never really got the hang of it & anything that did not look perfect was a ‘character mark’. Good luck!

I have been watching your videos from the beginning of your house journey and ummm… I’m a wee bit jelly! I love it! I refinish furniture and maybe try a lower grit? I wish you the best of luck! Remember, beauty takes time mama!!!! ❤️

If you’re worried about the drum sander, you could try the random orbital sander (you can rent it from Home Depot) and start with 24 grit! That’s what we’re using because we wanted to be gentler on our super old floors. It definitely took a while but the floors are looking amazing!

You definitely have to do it slow you are going to fast so the “pressure” isn’t able to do it’s actual job you literally have to step stop step stop

We also tried to do this with the drum sander we rented from Home Depot and it did not work. our floors were beautiful hardwood from 1925 however the finish would not change, the sander sucked and it was rotted in several places. ended up covering it with LVP. Truly worth it.
