It’s a system that often does more harm than good. I had a very mentally unwell parent and as a minor would have to collect that parent from the hospital after a knife brandishing incident in public. That was a typical Wednesday afternoon for me growing up. I’d get a call at school and have no way of getting to the hospital so the hospital would pay for a taxi and not ask many questions. The kicker is, when I was removed by DCP I was put in a far worse resi care run by a very deranged couple that were later charged with 38 counts of child abuse. They were allowed to harm many children across multiple children’s homes, under the care of the state. Objectively, this was much worse than the situation I was removed from.

How do we change it though? They dont care as they never face consequences. My neice who’s in my care now suffered horrendous abuse at the hands of DCP & her mother who forced her back to her mum who already lost 5 of her other kids .. my neice has life long mental health issues now massive ones at 12 being 6 years later. She only is with us safe now because we launched our own family court proceedings to get custody & fought dcp .. it cost us $70k!! I swear to god I’m going to help this child sue the state for her emotional torture they put her through for 6 years.. when she grows up. I’ve kept every single record and document so she can. This is the only way I see them changing is facing legal consequences from their victims like you and my neice & thousands more .. my family raised years of complaints and evidence they told us to F off pretty much & let this poor child go through hell .. she would scream & beg ti leave her mothers .. dcp almost laughed about it not joking sone of those horrible case workers! They should face criminal charges

I agree!! How many times the police stepped into my room and said "you ok?" after another one of my mother's episodes, or another dv between her and her bf. Or after I went to hospital with her after he hit her across the head with a metal pole because she came at him with it, only to have to call 000 weeks later when she had stabbed him 8 times but find her dressing his wounds the next morning when I woke up. Nothing was ever done to help me! The police knew, the school knew, family knew...

I fallen off a bunk bed while being in the system and wasnt taken to the hospital 🤦🏿♀️i was also out right refused medication that keeps me alive and out of hospital for a few days it took multiple people and one of them being a nurse that I NEED my insulin 🤦🏿♀️my oldest is in the system and has been put into multiple different homes. they never tried to get me into the problem at a different place nesr where he was living. NOT to mention they said i wasnt seeing anyone for the truma i went throw as a young adult when in fact I did. THEY also wanted to have all my house mates information i out right refused because I wasnt having my child live in a shared accommodation 🤦🏿♀️i hate the system

unfortunately this is been going on for decades and nothing will ever change because the government doesn't want it to change they are making so many excuses they just want to sweep it under the carpet but sadly my daughter was wrongfully taken and false allegations were made my daughter's entitled to compensation but in our doing the same thing to my daughter lying their asses off and not every parent is bad they just need help the whole system needs a major overhaul as I said this is been going on for decades

I'm so sad this happened to you. It is heartbreaking to hear ust that small part of your story. I spent my childhood trying to protect my younger sisters from this shit while copping it myself. Thank you for sharing so that one day no child will ever have to experience abuse or neglect of any kind. such courage. Respect.

The sad thing is the people who sometimes foster these vulnerable kids are no better or ill equipped and sometimes aren’t informed on what these kids have endured the whole system is broken

You are a powerful voice for kids now and no one did that turn-around but you. To turn your own bad experiences into a realisation you had to be the hero in your own story while still a kid and save yourself, because no one else will - is on another level of emotional intelligence and bravery. I’ve been through tough times watching my mum being hurt and that was bad enough when you’re too little to help . It was always hidden but Kids feel everything. Thanks again

What’s really ridiculous is that in this country race has a huge part of whether or not a child is taken whether they’re suffering from severe abuse or not. It’s absurd that this many injuries were documented and you weren’t removed from her. Really makes you wonder why.

The child protection and mandatory services need to be charged with criminal neglect.. I understand l worked alongside these services for many years. I have been to the coroner’s court to hear the death of a child was “no one’s fault “ well actually these services were responsible. I agree you should have been removed. If your journey was not one of criminal neglect.. what could be?
