@nourishingapothecary: When people think about progesterone and fertility, they usually think they simply need more progesterone. Sometimes that’s true. But there’s another concept that’s receiving increasing attention in fertility research: progesterone resistance. Progesterone doesn’t just need to be present in your bloodstream. It has to bind to receptors within the endometrium (the lining of your uterus) so it can prepare the uterine lining for implantation and support early pregnancy. Think of it like a key and a lock. 🔑 Progesterone is the key. 🔒 The progesterone receptor is the lock. If the lock isn’t responding properly, simply adding more keys may not solve the problem. This doesn’t mean progesterone resistance is the cause of every fertility challenge. Far from it. It’s also important to know that we’re still learning. Progesterone resistance is an active area of research, and we don’t yet have a simple clinical test to diagnose it. However, research has shown that conditions like endometriosis, chronic inflammation and changes within the uterine environment may influence the way progesterone signalling occurs within the endometrium. This is one of the reasons I never look at hormone levels in isolation. I’m asking: ✔️ Are you ovulating well? ✔️ Is your uterine lining developing appropriately? ✔️ Is there inflammation? ✔️ Could endometriosis be affecting implantation? ✔️ Are there other factors influencing the uterine environment? Because fertility is rarely about one hormone, one supplement or one treatment protocol. It’s about understanding the whole picture. If you’re navigating: • Low progesterone • IVF • Recurrent implantation failure • Recurrent miscarriage • Endometriosis • Unexplained infertility • Luteal phase concerns an individual assessment is incredibly important.
