@urban.sterling: The eternity ring was a great marketing move for De Beers. But at the jeweller’s bench, they’re a bit of a nightmare to resize. In a normal ring, you have a blank bit of metal at the bottom that you can fairly easily cut, add metal to, and solder back together seamlessly. But a true eternity ring has stones going 360 degrees around the band. If your finger size changes ten years after your wedding, which is completely normal, you can’t just stretch the metal. Doing so would warp the curvature of the settings and pop the diamonds out. Sometimes, the only solution for a size change is to completely melt down the gold and remake the entire ring from scratch.
