Fixing Loose Handling on BMW X5 - Lower Arm Replacement. • In this video, we are working on a 2021 BMW X5 (G05 chassis) equipped with a 210 kW diesel engine. The owner complained about noticeably worse handling compared to when the vehicle was new. Suspension diagnostics revealed worn ball joints in the lower straight control arms, as well as torn hydraulic bushings. • All four lower control arms need to be replaced: two on the left and two on the right. In this video, we focus specifically on replacing the two left-side lower control arms - the right side is done in exactly the same way. • The job is relatively straightforward but requires precision. We start by removing the plastic covers that block access to the suspension components. Next, we loosen the ball joint fasteners and the bolts on the bushing side. Since a wheel alignment will be performed after the repair, we first check that the tie rod is free to rotate inside the tie rod end. • To remove the lower ball joints from the steering knuckle, the drive shaft must be lifted slightly upward. Afterwards, we loosen the central CV joint bolt - this bolt must be replaced with a new one. The new axle bolt is tightened to 210 Nm + 90°. • All threaded fasteners used during the repair are replaced with new bolts. The bushing bolts on the subframe and on the shock absorber side must not be tightened while the suspension is hanging - final torque is applied only after the vehicle is lowered onto its wheels during the alignment procedure. • The video shows the entire process: removing the old arms, installing the new ones, tightening the fasteners, and verifying correct installation.
