I’m so scared. All the time. I’m a mom. I have responsibilities. And it’s eating me away and I’m so scared.

Hi guys, I’ll give you some hope, I had crippling OCD - it was something that consumed me, I literally couldn’t go more than 3-5 minutes without giving into an episode and it ruined my life. I genuinely felt like a shell of myself and would be in tears and be terrified of what might happen all the time. I’m telling you this to paint the picture that I completely understand what it’s like, what I had was a really bad form of OCD. But now, I barely barely get any episodes, and I only get occasional thoughts here and there that would’ve led to a spiral back when, but I can manage them and they don’t lead to anything. I’ll tell you what I did, and it’s the only solution. ERP. Hardcore exposure response prevention therapy. I learned the science of OCD, why it happens, what is habituation. I approached my OCD as if it’s a physical illness, and it made things seem manageable to me. Everytime I would sit with the feeling and do nothing, it was absolute pain, but I felt that the time between episodes would slowly slowly grow larger until I barely had them. There’s no other way to get better, other than ERP. You got this, and I tell you if you stick to ERP & do it properly, you CAN & WILL get to feel moments of bliss and peace return again, without feeling tied down to your episodes. You got this and believe in you & there’s hope & healing out there you can and will get through this ☀️☀️☀️☀️if anyone has any questions please please lmk - I’m also a psychology graduate & did a masters in cognitive neuroscience if you’re worried about my credentials <3

Is it normal for OCD to come and go? Ever since I was a kid, I’d get it for a few weeks or months, then it completely disappears for months or even years, only to come back later in a totally different form/theme. Is this an OCD thing?

I need you guys to know that it’s not possible. OCD is treatable, not curable. It gets better.

Just remind yourself, you aren’t what it tells you you are. You aren’t a monster, you are a human with an unforgiving mind. Doesn’t make you any less human, keep fighting and look towards the light

i wish people understood how serious ocd is. and that its not about being organized or liking to clean a lot. ocd literally ruined my whole life and made me lose everyone i care about. ocd affects your feelings, thoughts, and it controls your actions/ behaviour towards other people. living with ocd is like living as a prisoner in your own mind. its living hell everyday. i have lost everyone i care about because of ocd. its the worst diagnoses to have

Can someone explain exactly how it feels to have ocd and what does it effect (not the contamination part of it)?

It’s possible! Trust me, I had it, it was an absolute nightmare but I no longer have it and am living a fantastic life, I know it seems hopeless especially coz it makes you question everything you thought you knew about yourself, but there’s hope I promise! Just remember, no thought feeling or emotion belongs to you, you are the one observing the thoughts, learn to observe without reacting to them (coz your reactions to the thoughts are what keep ocd alive) and it’ll fade into silence! Might not happen very quickly, but stick to it and it’ll help you a lot!
