Play is one of the most underrated parenting tools we have, especially when kids are struggling. You don’t need to do this all the time. But when your child is in a hard moment, using play to meet them can lower cortisol, bring in some lightness, and help them start to process what they’re feeling. I love the idea of using play to prepare for a doctor’s visit or a dentist appointment your child might be nervous about. I find play so helpful when kids are struggling with daily transitions, and the beautiful thing about it is our kids actually absorb so much more of what we’re saying when we do it through play. My top tip? Bring play into the everyday moments. It doesn’t have to be a stop-and-drop, it can just be something you do as you move from A to B. For example: If your child won’t get in the bath, grab their LEGO DUPLO character and narrate that they don’t want to get in either. If your kid needs a little boost, brag to their toys about what an amazing human they are. Anything silly works. When we can narrate what our kids might be thinking and feeling out loud, through play, using whatever’s in front of us like their LEGO DUPLO — we give them language for their inner world. #LEGODUPLOambassador #LEGODUPLO #AD
