It goes much deeper than shyness. Growing up in Accra, you quickly learn that the stereotypes are very real. Some people look at you with distaste the moment they hear you speak Ewe. Even though my Ewe isn't perfect, I make it a point to speak it with my sisters whenever we're out in public.
