The Milky Way is called درب التبانة (Path of the Straw Sellers) in Arabic because ancient observers thought its pale, glowing band looked like a trail of spilled straw left behind by merchants transporting hay. * درب (Darb): Path or trail. * التبانة (Al-Tabbanah): Straw merchants (from تبن/Tibn, meaning straw). In contrast, the English name Milky Way comes from Greek mythology, where the glow was envisioned as spilled divine milk.
