They do sound similar, but only Portuguese from Portugal. Brazilian Portuguese sounds completely different.

Yes, they do sound similar, not the same for Brazilian Portuguese. When I used to hear Polish, for the sz (sh), cz (ch) sounds I also thought it was similar to Portuguese

Actually I’m Portuguese and every time I hear someone speaking Russian far away i always think its Portuguese and have to stop for a bit and REALLY try to make the words out

I’m Brazilian and there have been quite a few times that I thought people were speaking Russian but I would suddenly realise I could understand them - they were Portuguese. Sometimes they sound Slavic even to a native Brazilian Portuguese speaker!

What shocks me the most is how far appart portugese and brazilian portugese are. They can communicate with eachother fine but as a non-portugese speaker, it just sounds like 2 different languages

я разговариваю на русском и на португальском и для меня эти два языка абсолютно разные. на португальском слова тянутся абсолютно по другому никакого напоминания русского звучания нет
