Istanbul is unique because it is the only major city in the world located on two continents, separated by the Bosporus Strait. Turkey is known for its diverse geography, ranging from high mountain ranges and fertile plains to beautiful coastlines and volcanic landscapes. Famous natural and historical attractions include Cappadocia, Pamukkale, Mount Ararat, Ephesus, Hagia Sophia, and the ancient city of Troy. The country is also famous for its cuisine, including kebabs, baklava, Turkish delight, and traditional Turkish tea and coffee. The Turkish economy is one of the largest in the region, with industries including manufacturing, tourism, agriculture, construction, and defence. Turkey also has one of the largest armed forces in NATO and occupies a strategically important position controlling the Bosporus and Dardanelles straits, which connect the Black Sea to the Mediterranean.
