@elainaefird: Replying to @MellyRMMG our culture is so anti-fat that it often mistakes illness for success. Why would adding another voice to an already horrible conversation about fatness have “more impact?”
Peds GI and Obesity Medicine here. Also, the goal of obesity management is avoiding/treating the metabolic and physical consequences of excess weight through the development of APPROPRIATE and SUSTAINABLE lifestyle habits, not the achievement of “thinness”.

Just went to the orthopedic surgeon because I have bone on bone arthritis in my patellofemoral joint- in walks this uber thin woman who looks at me and dives into telling me it’s my fault I’m having pain- why? Because I’m overweight. My arthritis is my fault because I’m overweight. It was horrifying

And I must ask where they came up with the stat of 60% of Americans being morbidly obese?? When they start making up facts, they lose any and all credibility.

People who leave these comments are the same people who mock anyone not stick thin for going to the gym

Not to mention BMI doesn't take into account actual fitness, body comp or health. Here's my size 8 obese self who was running 5-6 days a week training for races and eating a mostly home cooked vegetarian diet with no health issues.

That was me. I couldn't get thin enough until I ended up in the ICU with electrolyte imbalance caused by over exercising and not eating properly. I'm almost 70 and am healthier than I've ever been. I'm not skinny or fat. I'm tired of people having an opinion about other people's body's.

I went for medical clearance for residential tx, left with a GLP rx because that was apparently more important. EDs in a bigger body aren’t taken seriously at all. I’m in GLP hell, but all I’m getting is praise.

Also the Anorexia leads in fatalities from mental health disorders. Back to number one after taking number two to opiate abuse.

So overeating by thousands of calories a day and not moving one's bodies is "normal" but staying fit, lean and active is "abnormal'? Come on. 😂

I would openly tell people about my disordered behaviors when asked how I was losing weight. Because I started out fat (my bmi was obese) I was often encouraged and told “keep it up, just don’t take it too far”… like I already told you I fast and restrict and unhealthy amount every day. I was already taking it too far. I was having health issues at my lowest weight despite it technically being healthy for my height because I got there in an unhealthy weight. I became overweight in recovery, so people want to act like I’m worse off now, but at least my blood work and vitals are healthier again.

A lot of these people eating nothing but unseasoned ground beef and white rice aren’t even aware they have severe eating disorders.
