@schyler.reighn: Every country has its contradictions and Japan is no different. Yeah Japan is safe and I feel just fine taking walks at midnight, but it's also known for chikan and SA against women so 🤪 I also see Japanese accounts on Twitter sharing videos of tired tourists sitting on the ground, shaming them because it's "dirty" and "bad manners" but seeing salarymen literally sleeping on the ground is super common lol Not to mention the lack of soap & warm water in public bathrooms and sinks that are rarely used here lmao It just goes to show that no "way of life" is ever 100% true and reality is more nuanced than that. . tags . #japantravel #traveljapan #livinginjapan #lifeinjapan #travelosaka #osakatravel #japanlifestyle #osaka Living in Japan Osaka community Japanese lifestyle

men's violence against women in japan is extremely common. japan is underhated and very romanticized especially by young girls

it seems like it's "safer" when it comes to more "violent" crimes (which isn't fully true bc of stalking incidents and butsukari otoko lol...), robberies and such, but they kinda turn a blind eye to all the sexual violence happening. like adding shutter sound to phones isn't going to magically solve the problem– actually start making more laws to protect women and follow them; believe victims, shame those perverts and lock them up.

Tbf, I would rather sa, groping and stalking, than gang violence, murder, kidnapping, etc.
So yes, Japan is safer than most countries

True: The homeless rate is low. Also true: The homeless rate is low because what Japan considers to be "homeless" excludes a huge portion of the homeless population such as people moving nomadically, people who live in homeless shelters, or people sleeping in Internet cafes

Both times I moved to Japan to work, the "New foreign employee how to live in Japan" manuals the companies provide both stressed for women stuff like always lock all doors and windows, make sure you aren't followed into your building, keep blinds down if possible and don't hang underwear on your balcony clothesline, even three stories up from ground level.
This same information in 2003 and 2017, different companies.
It was obviously being advised to female foreign staff for a reason.

I feel like Japan doesn’t take s.a / r4pe serious AT ALL especially with how often it’s used as a “joke” or simply something “embarrassing” or “not a big deal” in anime

another one: true that japan tries to encourage japanese women to marry and have kids by promising them some sort of economical benefit system. also true: women are severely underpaid, schools have been caught in systematically prioritizing men, and women are still expected to do everything in the house + childcare.

Funny thing is is Japan is known for its very toxic work environments… they may “have laws to protect employees.” But clearly those laws are not followed.
