💯💯 Absolutely, What mine would do is BCUZ I’ve brought up problems that happened in the past several times so that we could get passed it and work to repair it(to which they denied ever happening, DARVO’d and blame shifted every single time) whenever they would treat me bad and I would confront it again, they would attack me and say “you’re stuck in the past, your so angry and holding onto resentment….get over it” …….uhhhhhh what???🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️

I can forgive their past parenting mistakes. They were young and emotionally neglected children themselves. But they won't change now. In fact they have gotten worse. Their control tactics have gotten meaner.

I sometimes feel a bit helpless watching parents to adult children relate to their kids. The hole they’ve dug is usually so deep that it’s hard to imagine any change, and the “oh I guess I was just a terrible parent then” stereotype is way more common than I realized.

This was so clear once I had adult children. I could see how the other adults in my family just couldn’t make that transition from the child to the adult. And I could see how so much of their behavior was so cringy and condescending and still taking on this demeanor of adult/child.

Can you speak on toxic shame vs. healthy shame? I feel as though the use of phrases like “they did their best” give parents an out from having to face the healthy discomfort and shame they need in order to grow.

Your video on the parents’ responsibility to maintain relationships with their (adult) children blew my mind and forever chgd how I interact with my adult children. So grateful. Never gonna get that from my parent.
