Idk if it’s just bali, but here in jakarta, i met expats been living here years and they mostly could speak bahasa and very respectful to locals

The sad thing about Singapore is that because English is the de facto language, it's simply too comfortable for foreigners to ease in without making any efforts to integrate.

I mean the real question is why do people make such an effort to integrate into the US/UK and don’t do that in Singapore/Indonesia. You can tell people they should do XYZ. But behaviors are not changed by ‘should’s but ‘must’s. And unfortunately, Singapore does not have that soft power yet for people to want to integrate into it.
