@mistithorpe: 🚨 MAYRA VELASQUEZ UPDATE: “SHE IS NOT GUILTY,” ATTORNEY SAYS The attorney for Mayra Velasquez, the North Texas real estate agent accused of murdering her close friend Irasema Chavez more than 14 years ago, says he has now met with his client—and she insists she is completely innocent. According to her attorney, Mayra was “paralyzed” by the arrest and was shocked to learn she was facing a capital murder charge. He says one of the first questions she asked him was why the case was being prosecuted as capital murder, and he explained it was because investigators allege a television was stolen during the attack, making it a murder committed in the course of a robbery under Texas law. Her defense is already challenging the state’s evidence. Investigators say the case was solved through Investigative Genetic Genealogy (IGG) after a single drop of blood left at the crime scene was traced through family DNA. Detectives later collected DNA they say belonged to Mayra from trash outside her home and allege it matched the blood found inside Irasema’s apartment. Police believe the killer may have cut themselves during the brutal attack, leaving that blood behind. The defense, however, is questioning that DNA evidence, asking how reliable a blood sample collected more than 14 years ago really is and whether the state’s conclusions will hold up once all of the evidence is examined in court. This case has fascinated me from the beginning because there are still so many unanswered questions. * Police say Mayra and Irasema were close friends. * Irasema was stabbed more than 100 times inside her Arlington apartment. * There were no signs of forced entry, suggesting she likely knew her killer. * A surveillance video captured someone in a hoodie approaching the apartment shortly before the murder. * The case sat cold for 14 years before genealogy and DNA technology led detectives back to Mayra. Now the defense says she is innocent. The prosecution says the DNA tells a different story. A jury will eventually decide who is right. 💬 Do you think DNA evidence like this is enough to convict someone 14 years later, or do you want to see much more evidence before reaching a conclusion? 🩷 Mortgage by day, true crime nerd by night… one pays the bills, but they both keep me up at night. If you’re looking to buy, sell, or refinance a home, I’d love the opportunity to help. #MayraVelasquez #IrasemaChavez #TrueCrime #ColdCase #DNAEvidence

This is very confusing! If the victim was killed with a knife I guess there was blood everywhere, how do the police find a drop of blood?

The podcast from 2018 answers a lot of questions, but also makes you question a lot too. The blood was not dry at crime scene and more than just a drop. The victim also just broke up with another female the day before. I’m curious to find out motive.

I think these two were dating and Mayra tried breaking it off because her husband found out and Irasema gave her a hard time.

I still can’t make up my mind if she is or not BUT defense attorneys don’t offer interviews unless they want the media attention to work in their favor because they see/know something that we don’t know. Soooo she MAY be innocent, but we gotta wait and see how this unfolds.

Why would she ask why is this capital murder I think if I was innocent I would not ask those questions making me look like I wish it was a lower level of accusation 😡

She's guilty, it's her lawyers job to say she's not. Her blood was at the scene.

Her question “Why would I want a Television”….simple, detectives would look at the case as robbery and not other way!!

I definitely could not be a lawyer. I would automatically be like my client is guilty. I don’t know why I just feel it.

That’s exactly why she stole the TV because why would she want a TV so she wanted to make it seem like it was a robbery
