I see it as the physical manifestation of the internal/mental damage being on the throne causes, and I think it cuts those who have to sacrifice their goodness in order to rule. Like Alicent said, “You'll do things that your heart would have recoiled from.” Of course I’m sure it’s not that deep but that is my interpretation.

I think all of the Queens and Kings were cut at some point it’s just how they interpret that. And she isn’t in a good headspace so she’s going to view it as a negative and any doubts she has in her ability are going to start seeping through.
