1. It may not have originally referred to female anatomy but to men they still think it’s inferior to be called a pussy in reference to the female anatomy. as well as that “pussy” no longer generally refers to “scaredy cat” and is often used to describe men that aren’t “chivalrous” or act more feminine. 2. wife material is inherently sexist because it’s used to describe women who act in traditional gender roles which are rooted in sexism (same goes for husband material). and although the phrases were popularized by women doesn’t make them any less harmful. ie. girl math is generalizing women to have no common sense and trying to show they lack basic financial skills and literacy. 3. yes “man’s best friend” is supposed to refer to mankind in general it’s still generally used to describe the companionship with men. the comparison with “crazy cat lady” is to point out how while the companionship is relatively the same one is demonized for being owned mostly by women. (and the stereotype has been worn down). 4. Mrs Miss Ms do play a part into how the patriarchy sets us apart from men everyday due to the fact it’s rooted in old traditional values which are harmful today. 5. i think it’s important to realize that not only do they categorize male dominated sports by gender but also almost completely disregard them. i’m going to have to disagree with the fact that ballet has gendered categories because the general term for both men and women ballet is just ballet while like the op said, basketball is gendered between “basketball” and “women’s basketball.” it’s harmful to separate the two when they play the same game under the same rules etc. one being more popular doesn’t give it the right to be the generalization of the sport. that type of gendering is why people will often make fun of and ignore women’s basketball, soccer, etc. not everything is black and white, it can have an explanation that isnt about sexism but that doesn’t take away from the fact they’re rooted in sexism.

Pussy etymology has shifted. People saying pussy not is not referring to a cat in most senses. Same with Happy Wife, Happy Life. It certainly now means they key to a happy home is a man keeping their wife happy, which has a a clear connotation. Notice how it’s only “Crazy cat lady” and there’s no near popular male equivalents?
