@wildlifeworldzoo: We couldn’t let shark week go by without sharing Draco the Zebra Shark’s viral video of him playing with a pumpkin 🦈🎃 Draco has spots, not stripes - why is he called a zebra shark? Glad you asked! As juveniles, they have dark and light stripes which work as protection from predators. It tricks predators into thinking they are a dangerous sea snake instead of a vulnerable shark pup. As they reach adulthood, those stripes become spots. Zebra sharks are found in the Indo-Pacific waters near coral reefs and on sandy sea floors where they feed on crustaceans and shellfish like crabs, shrimp, snails and other invertebrates. Sadly, this beautiful species of shark is endangered due to widespread overfishing, climate change and degradation of coral reef habitats. I worked at aquarium a long time ago and hands-down the zebra sharks are super friendly. They’re basically water golden retrievers with fins very nice animals. 🦈👍🏻🥰
