The piece suffers from severe "mid-tone mud." There is very little true negative space (raw skin) left to let the design breathe, nor are there deep, rich black anchors to create dimension. Because almost everything is shaded in the exact same mid-gray tone, the details bleed together into a single textured wall instead of reading clearly from a distance.
