@fallpreventioncoach: the goal is always to prevent falls first. But because not every fall can be avoided, many also teach “safe falling” strategies to reduce the risk of serious injury- especially hip fractures, wrist fractures, and head injuries.#fallprevention #kinesiologist #seniorwellness #seniorfitness #healthyaging
You need a catchy saying to help people remember what to do in the moment!

Teaching seniors how to properly fall is useless. In the moment they won’t have time to think about it.

I fell backwards on stairs at 26, and fractured my spine. Everyone should be taught how to fall

This will not work on the elderly, they never assume their going to fall, they have huge egos 🤣 but their so fragile but when they all fall, they don’t think about how to but they just do because i happens instantly, i work in a care home and the amount of bones and facial and head injuries that occur because you can not teach them to prepare for a fall that assume will never happen …

Guys this will work for some people. Not others. As usual everyone wants to say it will work for everyone or it won’t work for anyone 😭 you gotta still be with it to remember this stuff but it’s better to take away any amount of risk you can

To all the naysayers. I've done fall training as a theater actor and as a lifelong skier. Don't knock it! Practice while you can and your muscle memory will take over next time. 💪

where i live we host literal parkour (run by the young adults who do parkour) for the elderly. they teach them how to fall safely and roll and avoid breaking their wrists and hips. its super cute and some actually get into parkour and climb and run.

Equestrian here- this is SUCH good advice !! EVN just rounding in and keeping close to the head is a massive safety boost ! You’re doing a great job

I’ve broken my radial head bones a few times from falling with stiff arms, started when I’m 20. I’m worried for old age with these creaky bows.

I saw a video from Japan (I think) where stunt coordinators started teaching the elderly to tumble properly, on a mat that has items like chairs and tables so they learn how avoid the furniture. Keep in mind these are the seniors that do the slow tai chi exercises regularly so they’re already in some shape.

Once you curl up should you try and land on your back? I have never been taught how to fall and I do some higher-risk activities.

Agree with everyone saying people of all ages should know this. I was maybe 26 and l “had a fall” out of one of those showers that’s also a bath, the mat slipped out from under me when I was getting out. I landed so hard both my housemates heard the thud 🥴 Fully flung backwards and landed on my hip and wrist. After my life flashed before my eyes, I remember thinking “now I understand how elderly break a hip falling” 😅 thankfully I did not break my hip, but yikes it hurt!
