@dvmcellini1: We’re back with another @sinatra reel! This time an older cat with one of the largest brain tumors I’ve personally seen! A few teaching points here: 1) if you’re going to be any species and get a brain tumor, you’d likely select “feline”. The most common tumor they get are meningiomas, which are benign and often resectable (I.e - you can remove them with surgery). 2) Survival times after surgery range from about 1-3 years depending on what study you read. This data is skewed a little bit though, because often times what claims these cats’ lives are their comorbidities (kidney disease, hypertension, diabetes, etc etc) that run their course, not the tumor growing back. 3) Presenting symptoms can be real non-specific and are often times just described as “my cat isn’t acting normal”. A careful neuro exam will tease out some deficits a lot of the time though :) 4) A tumor this big almost has to be benign and slow growing ie - removable. Any tumor of that size that would grow quickly, would likely end up ☠️ the patient quickly too. Like, follow, save, and share if you like what you see! I post neuro cases when I can. #vetspecialist #vetneurology #felinemedicine #vetmed #veterinarymedicine

annoyed at the all the comments about the price of the surgery and not the INCREDIBLE DOCTOR AND RECOVERY of this kitty!! Knowing damn well if this was a person there wouldn’t be comments about what the family was billed , so why is that always the narrative for vet med. Let’s just appreciate this doctor’s amazing skills without bringing money into it .

Wow, incredible. There is no way in 99.9% of cases that would have been a successful outcome or even attempted, that is one lucky cat.
