@ellesmaddry: Before Wes was born I remember Daniel and I having quite a few conversations about what our new roles would look like. We were a bit nervous because we are both people who need sleep to thrive 😅 The more we talked about it, it just made sense to do things like this. When I take night shifts and he handles everything under the sun during the day, we both end up rested, no one feels like the other isn’t pulling their weight, and Wes thrives. The newborn season and postpartum can be tough, but I think when there’s clarity around what everyone is responsible for, everyone is set up for success. This is the setup that works for us, and helps us truly feel like a team! I’d love to hear from other people in this season - how are you dividing up responsibilities with your spouse? #motherhood #firsttimemom #newborn #postpartum #marriage

“I am taking care of our baby, and he is treating me like his baby” I’m going to use this exact quote lol. Love this.

As a man that wants to do this, can you make sure to get your husband’s take on this? Does he sleep in the same room as you and the baby?

Study’s show that it’s actually really healthy for the baby’s brain development to have night sessions with Dad too and helps their bonding overall

My partner told me my job is taking care of the baby, his is to take care of me. It eased almost all my anxiety realizing my only job is going to be taking care of the baby while he steps up in other aspects.

This is how we have separated everything! I only wake my husband at night if I physically cannot stay awake and need to tap out

Setting the expectations before the baby comes is really smart!

For nine weeks you look and sound great, I didn’t realize looking good this soon after birth was an option

dad should also be holding the baby a lot to build the bond. just because you’re breastfeeding doesn’t mean he can’t do anything, there is literally a million things he can do related to the baby. i’ve never understood the “mom takes care of baby and dad takes care of everything else” because dad should also be taking care of the baby, a lot. it is his child

My husband was nervous about being able to care for the baby (he has very little experience with babies but I have a lot) and one of our friends told him “ok so when she takes care of the baby, you are taking care of HER” and that was really good advice!

I am 8M pregnant and my husband and I have this arrangement now. He just wants me to take care of myself and our baby and he is happy to pick up the rest. (Obvs I help where I can- but so exhausted). Thankful for good men.

The baby needs you both. This makes a dependency on you when it comes to baby. Whatever works for you though

I’m 30 weeks pregnant, and I plan on taking 8 weeks maternity leave (unpaid) and my husband doesn’t get any leave, he will be working. I’m nervous I’m going to be stuck with everything cause he will be still working while I’m not 😭

9 weeks in? Is he working from home? Mine does too but it’s still so demanding of him and he only gets two weeks off after baby is born.

I am really struggling to find some sort of balance. I am only 28 weeks right now, but he gets no leave, outside of the accumulation of vacation hours he has. They want him to go back to work the day I come home from the hospital. He works 2nd shift, so he leaves the house at 11:30am, and doesn’t get home until 1:45am. He is usually only awake long enough to walk the dog and feed himself. I am home alone that entire time. I don’t know what to do when the baby comes, I’m already overwhelmed.
